The final project of Unconventional Clay was a figural/emotional abstraction sculpture, with the primary goal of visualized a feeling that's hard to put into words. I started with a reaching hand, and then formed a swirling base around that would then go on to host vibrant colors and weaved e-waste. I wanted to visualize some of the overwhelming whirlwind I have been experiencing as of late, and with the addition of e-waste I focused on the feeling of being overwhelmed by technology, communication, and emotion.
The forms of the base were inspired by those found in Warframe, specifically by the metallic tendrils of the Void and of the warping flesh of the Infestation. This inspiration shifted towards the Techrot of Warframe: 1999 as I added a blend of underglaze colors and a mess of electronic junk. I felt that the movement and flow of these Warframe forms were appealing enough to try to recreate in clay, and to describe some of my recent struggles with staying afloat in a maelstrom of instant communication and anxiety.
